楊秀卓前半生以會計工作搵食,並兼職藝術創作;後半生全職執教視藝科,藉此買一份安全感。無意中他在建制內成為一名教學藝術家,一做就是18年。其間不斷遊走規矩內外,試圖超越四幅牆的限制,讓青少年自由地實現自我,從社會中尋找一個位置,與世界重新連結,過一種自主性的人生(如果可以的話)。
From the realism of the 19th century to contemporary conceptual art, how should we rediscover the ethical aspect of art and reflect on the evolution of aesthetic practice? In the post-pandemic era, with the redistribution of world power, as a teaching artist, how should we intervene in contemporary society through the arts? And how should we deal with the difficulties and challenges?
By doing accounting work for a multi-national company to make a living in early stage of life, by then, I seriously made art in leisure time. I later became a fulltime art teacher for 18 years in order to buy a sense of security in my middle age. I tried to transgress in schooling and break the four walls,so as to gain more freedom for teenagers to grow. I hope they somedays will fulfill the self, find a position in society, reconnect with the world, thus, live a life of autonomy (if possible)
